Local Intelligence is a new Code.X initiative launching in Summer 2025 to build inclusive, place-based AI ecosystems through hands-on education, policy-aligned research, and civic partnership. This initiative brings together students, researchers, and civic leaders in an 2-week bootcamp of AI policy training.
By working directly with universities, governments, and community organizations in under-resourced regions, Local Intelligence empowers university students to solve pressing local challenges in artificial intelligence research.
Our Approach
Today’s AI systems are often trained in isolation from the world’s linguistic, cultural, and civic diversity. Local Intelligence aims to equip university students in emerging markets to conduct AI research that is grounded in local realities, shaped by civic priorities, and co-created with diversity.
2-week AI bootcamp: Hosted at a local university campus or remotely and taught by advanced PhD students and instructors from leading institutions.
Policy-aligned projects: Students and researchers co-design AI projects with government and NGO partners.
Mentorship & Research Pathways: Each student team is paired with a research mentor.
Projects continue over 8–10 weeks with weekly check-ins, with students showcasing real-world tools, working demos, and—when possible—academic or public releases.
