Mentor a Gazan student in English!

We are looking for volunteers yearlong to support high school and university students in preparing for the Duolingo English Test (DET) with the goal of achieving a score of 130 or higher, enabling them to apply for university opportunities abroad.

Beyond test preparation, this mentorship fosters long-term relationships between mentors and mentees, providing students with a trusted academic reference and support system throughout their educational journey. By volunteering, you will play a crucial role in empowering students with guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for growth.

About Us

Code.X envisions a future where fragile or conflict-affected regions around the world have equitable access to the education, tools, and resources required to create a flourishing technology sector that brings local prosperity and contributes to global development of new technologies. Code.X hosts learning programs in fragile and conflict-affected regions around the globe, empowering young students to become changemakers in their communities.

About the Role

There are no strict requirements to apply—only a dedication to being present for your mentee over the long term. If at any point you are unable to continue, you can communicate this, and we will support the transition. A strong command of English is required, and while not mandatory, any English certification (such as DET, IELTS, TOEFL, or CEFR qualifications) is highly appreciated.

Due to the nature of the program, we may not respond to every application, but we will reach out when there is a match.

What You’ll Bring

Requirements

  • Full professional fluency in English.

  • Dedication to be present for your mentee as they study towards their English exams this year, and ideally longer term.

  • Prior experience tutoring is required. Volunteers do not need to have professional teaching backgrounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • English certification (such as DET, IELTS, TOEFL, or CEFR qualifications)

  • Ability to also mentor the student in other academic subjects simultaneously, which can vary from student to student
